'Palmatifolium' is a very beautiful selection that has distinct foliage which is most attractive in all seasons but is truly spectacular in the fall when it brings out its finest array of oranges, yellows, and reds shaded with crimson tones. Palmatifolium fall colors are not only spectacular, they also last for a long period. The large, bright green leaves have an almost transparent appearance and do well in full Sun. Palmatufolium's leaves have 11 long lobes with a sharp narrow tip. Its leaves can measure up to 10 cm. in diameter. Palmatifolium is a somewhat rare tree that is not often seen. Larger specimens are found in the Esveld Aceretum in the Netherlands. Palmatifolium is a strong and sturdy upright tree form with a rounded canopy. This outstanding cultivar along with Autumn Moon are the only two Acer Shirasawanum we grow. Acer Shirasawanum, Acer Palmatum, and Acer Japonicum make up the entire Japanese maple family. Palmatifolium is unique, colorful, and is known to accept a wide range of weather conditions. We are also finding it to be one of the most heat tolerant Japanese maples in the world today.
